Reflexology is a practice which involves treating the entire body through pressure on the feet. The theory is that there are reflex points on the feet, as well as other parts of the body, which relate to the functions of the body as a whole.
The human body is designed to fix itself and just like when a cut is left to heal on its own accord, reflexology produces an internal homeostasis, increasing the body’s self healing mechanism and rebalancing any blockages that have occurred in the body’s own energy systems.
Most people report a profound sense of relaxation after a reflexology session has been carried out, which continues working after the treatment. Other benefits include: strengthened immunity, detoxifying and decongesting experience, rebalance of internal organs and systems e.g. hormonal, stress, digestive disorders, and generally restoring the body to a better state, so improving physical and emotional well being.
Both feet reflect both sides of the body to be balanced, are worked in a session, which takes about an hour. Some peoples’ feet are more sensitive to others and a therapist can regulate differing pressure applied to the feet to gauge each client’s sensitivity.
Reflexology can be done on everyone and is adapted for newborns, children, elderly, pregnant women or anyone seriously ill. Reflexology clients, as well as other methods of holistic healing, become deeply relaxed after a session. This is an excellent sign that the client may have moved into the 'rest and repair' state otherwise known as the parasympathetic mode. This is the state in which the body is allowing healing to happen.
